The Coaching Journey

The role of the coach

The role of the coach is to:

  1. Manage the complex relationship between client and organisation
  2. The coach acts as a narrative bridge between their stories
  3. The coach offers a relational approach as opposed to remedial or corrective notions
  4. It aligns to workplace ethics
  5. Coaching assists client to get out of their own way, in order to maximise their potential

“Change is difficult at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous in the end”

Robin Sharma

When the client is ready for change – they can expect the following:

  • It will free the client from the tyranny of thinking they need to have it all figured out and know the answer to everything
  • They can increase their influence in that the coaching style invariably builds more rapport which means they find out what is really going on and avoid triggering resistance.
  • It will unleash the power of incremental change – massive cumulative change can be achieved through consistent improvement over time.
  • It will promote curiosity and create a useful questioning culture.
  • Any coaching relationship results in performance and development being part of the process.
  • No one can change another human being, but can only change themselves
